Chairman's Report Annual General Meeting
8th August 2007

HOME

Back to all Meeting Notes.

This year through the efforts of everyone involved we have built on our objective of bringing together disparate groups in a spirit of co-operation by responsible negotiations and networking to achieve our aims, to protect and maintain this land so it can remain a clean and safe home for wildlife and be enjoyed by the various local and visiting groups who use the area.

INVOLVEMENT
We have been a vocal presence at The Baw Baw Shire Town and Country Meetings and support the development of a Community Involvement department which we see as very positive development.
Our involvement on the Central Highlands Motorbike Initiative committee has continued. I like to think it is because of this group's involvement with this issue that our area has been chosen as the first in Victoria to establish unloading areas. We will also see a substantial amount of signage put in place to close areas that are currently seen as nuisance areas. Hopefully we have got the right balance as the eyes of the state will be upon us. Our involvement with this committee will continue for at least another year. We have established a relationship with the Neerim District Development Association and would like to see that relationship develop further during the coming year.

ACHIEVEMENTS
Our expanded "community expo" at the Neerim Show featuring The Baw Baw shire, Animal Rescue, The Woodies, The Miners and Land Care, was a great success despite the weather. All the planning and preparation and participation by every-one impressed both the public and show committee. A gauge our success is if others copy our lead. The Agricultural Society of Victoria has decided to use a theme for all the shows this season as a tribute to the fire-fighters and animal rescue. Where have you seen this idea before?
Clean Up Australia Day, another hugely successful day, with over fifty people in attendance and an estimated 55 tonnes of waste coming out of the forest. An enormous amount of time and precision planning went into this day and we must pass on a special thanks to the Gippsland Four Wheel Drive Club, our corporate sponsors, Gippsland Metal Recycling, Baw Baw Mini Skips and all involved for making it all happen

ON GOING PROJECTS
Hawthorn Bridge:
This year things have been a bit quiet in regards the bridge, however we were able to convince the D.S.E to establish a ford crossing at the site but due to other catastrophes throughout the state budgeting for the actual construction of the bridge has been put on hold. We anticipate that in the coming year we will see another submission to the D.S.E. in an effort to have the bridge put back as a priority for the area.
Crossover Trestle:
Bridge and Walking Track: Although this project has only been on the calendar since April this year, progress has been terrific. The organising committees have been busy meeting with our working partners and establishing the ground rules for the project. At present we are in the middle of meeting with and making submissions to the funding partners, this process will take time, so it is a hurry up and wait situation. We do anticipate the Green Corp component of the project will commence in late January 2008 and the bridge work not long after that. The success of this project depends on our being successful in our submissions to the various funding bodies.
Web Page:
This year saw the development of our own web page RCFG.ORG.AU. This project allows the more cost effective dissemination of information. We post the minutes of each meeting, usually within a day or so of that meeting being held and the site has a feed back form and or email address. We make a special thanks to DCSI internet in Warragul for hosting the site for free. The actual cost so far to RCFG has been a whole $20.00, but the in kind support cost would be around $3,900.00.
