GENERAL BUSINESS
1) HERITAGE GRANTS:
Craig suggested that we apply for interperative signage to go onto the "Crossover Bridge". Bernard suggested that we should also apply to telstra for funding as their cables cross the bridge. Bernard will follow up both suggestions.
2) TRAIL-BIKE VISITOR AREA
(Latrobe river road). Paul reported that the shelter is to be erected shortly and the green corp crew will spend a few days doing the landscaping around the area.
3) CENTRAL HIGHLANDS TRAILBIKE INITIATIVE:
Signage will be available shortly for roadsides and other areas of concern to inform bike riders of the visitor areas and the initiative in general.
4) LA-TROBE FOREST TRACK CLOSURES:
Paul informed the group that closures were underway after consultation with the 4.w.d. club and local horse riders.
5) HAWTHORN BRIDGE PROJECT:
It is imperative that all groups and individuals concerned send a "letter of concern" to the appropriate minister (or Garry Blackwoods office) as soon as possible. At present the project has slipped down the priority list of the D.S.E. and in danger of being completely ignored unless we can stir up the momentum and get it back up the list.
Paul Pearson, Rob Patrick, and David Mapleson did an inspection of the camp-site area to determine what was needed to upgrade the site to an acceptable standard. A lot of work is required and a plan of attack will be formulated to co-ordinate with the re-building of the bridge.
6) GREEN CORP:
David reports that the corp is doing very well, completing all the allotted projects so far. Project due to finish on the 14th of August 2008.
7) CROSSOVER REGIONAL PARK UP-DATE:
Craig reported the following:
A) Rail Trail is nearing completion with signage being made up now that will be put in place shortly.
B) The "new" motorised track is to be called "SMITHY'S TRACK" and will run adjacent to the back fence line of private properties and join up Pilgrims Ck. Rd. and the Rail Trail.
C) Tree planting will be done along some of the private fenceline at the crossover end of track.
D) Bench seats and distance markers are to be put along the trail shortly.
E) A community grant has been applied for on our behalf to cover the cost of interperative signage along the rail trail.
There was group discussion on the illegal use of the rail trail by motorised vehicles and the vandalism of existing signs.
Craig also let the group know that the Parks Vict. field project officer will be visiting the park during the next week.
8) SHIRE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT WORKSHOPS:
The shire proposes to hold a series of these workshops within our area (possibly early August) so that a project plan can be set up for the next five plus years. Workshops are organised by the shire and will directly contact residents about arrangements.
9) VOLUNTEER EXCHANGE WEBSITE:
This site is run by a group of people interested in helping out volunteer groups with items that require expertise that may not be available through the home group. It's a free service for volunteer groups. Bernard will check it out and report back.
10) SPECIAL RESOLUTION OF CONSTITUTION:
Mary reported that this requires the relevant information to be posted for 21 days and a vote can be held with a minimum of five paid up members. We deferred voting until our next meeting (13th August 2008)
11) GENERAL,GENERAL BUSINESS:
David M. wants to hold an event that will highlight further our activities with the public at large, in an effort to generate more interest throughout the community. He suggested perhaps a whiz bang opening of the rail trail?? David.M. will follow up for next meeting.
Next Meeting is 13th August 2008 at Rokeby Hall
