MEETING NOTES 31st October 2007

1)      MOTORBIKE UNLOADING AREAS: Work at the “Limberlost” site is underway.  Both “Turners rd.” and “La Trobe River rd.” sites have been put out to tender and it is anticipated works will start early 2008.

2)      HAWTHORN BRIDGE: Unfortunately construction will be delayed for a short while, due to the d.s.e. not having sufficient funds. With the devastation caused by fires and floods over the last 18 months our bridge has slipped down the priority list a bit. We will continue to remind the d.s.e. of  the need to replace the bridge, but we will not put pressure on them until we know that other communities  (e.g. Walhalla) can at least access their properties to carry on daily life.

3)      WEED SPRAYING:  Both D.S.E. and the shire will be commencing their “roadside spraying” programmes shortly and we are reminded of the dangers of consuming contaminated fruit.   Also a request from Carolyn Ferguson, that if anyone knows of an area that hasn’t been sprayed, would they please bring it to Carolyn’s attention.

4)      HAWTHORN BRIDGE CAMPSITE:  Paul reported that this area needs a lot of restoration works to be done and has asked that the group consider what we can do to assist in those works. We noted the request and passed it over for a future meeting early next year.

5)      MYRTLE BOWER RESERVE: If anyone has knowledge of this reserve, supposedly, situated on Loch Valley rd. please let Paul Pearson know as it has come up in discussions and everyone is at a loss as to its existence????

6)      VISION RADIO: passed over from last meeting. Mary and David checked out the request to do an interview on radio and will now follow up and make an appointment.

7)      CROSSOVER HERITAGE BRIDGE:  The bridge committee has asked the shire to arrange an engineers report and formulate a management plan for the bridge. Under “Heritage Australia” guidelines there is a structured path that must be taken before funding will be considered and we need to access the shire infrastructure and expertise to give ourselves the best chance of a positive outcome. All the ground work should be completed early next year, allowing for a big push later in 2008.

8)      WES DOBSON TALK: Wes is from Drouin land-care and spoke on the railway line and bridges in the area.  A very good book mentioned for people to follow up on is, “Wooden Wonders” author Don Chambers.

9)      PARKS VICT. REPORT:  Craig told us of progress on the “Passive Use Track”. We missed out on our community funding from parks, however, Parks has earmarked up to $36,000 to carry out works on the track and surrounds. There was lively discussion as to the extent of our involvement in the progress of this project

10)  ITEMS CARRIED OVER TO NEXT MEETING: A) Clean up Australia day. To be or not to be involved??   B) Neerim show. Request from show committee to be involved again.  Who and what format????    C)  KEITH COOKE TOURS. Will try and find out information for next meeting.  D) Green Corp Progress report.
