Notes 9th September 2009

Minutes of 16 June meeting were taken as read and passed. Matters arising from minutes were passed over to general business.

Treasurers report: Bernard
It was agreed that the investment of $25,000 in a short term deposit (4 months) be extended for another four months. Bernard/Rob B.
Accounts paid:
Heritage signs are in place at a cost of $890.Rokeby Hall Committee - hall hire $150.
Income: Membership dues $150.00

Reports
1. LaTrobe River Motorbike Visitor Area - opening David D.
David advised that the opening had been well attended with representation from all interested parties, including Baw Baw Council and DSE. Friends Group involvement in the project will conclude with the handover of responsibility to Warragul Motor Cycle Club for ongoing maintenance. David also advised that a suitable location for horse riders unloading area needs to be pursued.
2. Cavaletti Installation - Rokeby end of walking track - David M.
David advised that the installation of the Cavaletti had been successfully carried out by a well attended working bee.
3. Heritage Tour - 16 August - David M.
David advised that the tour travelled to various locations including Happy Go Lucky Mine, the Water Race and Mine Aqueduct. The meeting agreed that various locations need to be located and co-ordinates recorded for DSE to register for their records and future protection. Another trip will leave from 60 School Road Crossover on Sunday 13 September at 9.00am.
4. DSE - Paul P.
Paul advised that La Trobe River (Hawthorn Crossing) bridge is on the agenda for works in 2010. A small allocation of funding for some site works at the bridge may be transferred to other works.

Projects
1. Rail Trail
Distance markers have been installed.
2. Crossover Bridge - David D
a. Contact, despite a number of unsuccessful attempts, with the engineer to prepare a condition report is yet to be made.
b. The heritage signage at the Crossover end of the track has been installed at a cost of $840.
c. There is a site meeting with Heritage Victoria and Baw Baw Shire at 11.30am on Monday 14th September to say thanks for funding. People expected to attend include Amy Chan (Heritage Vic) with media, Cr D & Mrs Balfour with Kerry Irwin from Baw Baw Shire.
d. Proposal for Interpretive signage for trail and bridge requires a meeting of interested parties including Kerry Irwin and Amy Chan. Craig Jeffs has indicated that he expects to be available after December 2009.
e. Keith made the comment that the Crossover bridge is the only remaining original timber trestle bridge on the Noojee-Warragul line - all others have been rebuilt following fires. We need to build on that perception.
3. Town & Rural Community meetings with Baw Baw Shire - David D
David advised that Council is considering options for waste management and has called a public meeting for 10 September. This could impact on waste dumping in reserves and adversely affect the local crown reserves.

General Business
1. Newsletter: Nicki will be looking for articles to be put into the next public newsletter. Any-one that wants to contribute an article can contact either Nicki, Bernard or David.
2. Crossover Station - Claypan - David M made the comment that the area needs to be fenced to keep motorbikes and others from the area. The meeting was advised that Council propose road works for Gunn Road and works may assist - it was agreed to wait and see what Council are able to do.


Next Meeting: Wednesday 25th November and will be preceded by the Annual Meeting.
